Received the prettiest notebooks today from designer Tamasyn Gambell from London, just had to share it with everyone. Perhaps teakha will stock them at her next zakka store.
The story of Tamasyn goes like this. Tamasyn trained in printed textiles at Chelsea college of Art and the Royal College, experimenting with both fashion and interior print design. She later worked in Paris for high-end companies such as Louis Vuitton, and Sonia Rykiel before switching over to high street brand H&M as a women’s-wear print designer.
In both high end and high street fashion Tamasyn felt frustrated with the amount of waste and lack of innovation. The fast paced and mass produced fashions available today leave little time for reflection and so she decided to set up a company that would strive to produce luxurious considered designs whilst upholding a responsibility to work in the most environmentally and socially responsible methods available. Her eponymous label was hence born.
Tamasyn handprints all her materials in London using organic dyestuffs and water based inks. Her production runs are small, minimising waste and surplus goods.
The brand supports an Indian welfare project in Kerala aimed at educating and rehabilitating disabled young adults and their families at a Vocational Training Centre in Munar. They are taught a trade, given housing, health care and most importantly the ability to become self-sufficient.
The notebooks are made using papers from a one hundred year old British paper mill, and are bound by small bookbinders from the South of England.
