When next in Taitung, don't forget to pig out on local fresh fish, often a red-throated coris or tilefish, served pan-fried with lime and peppered salt, and accompanied by a simple stir-fried mountain vegetable dish. By far some of the freshest and best fish I have had.
At East Harbour 東港 in Taitung City, these wonderful fresh foods are served roadside under a huge banyan tree, and most importantly with the benefit of eat-till-you-drop complimentary braised pork rice!
Another great option is Special Pick 特選 in Fu Gang Harbour, about a fifteen-minute drive south of Taitung City. Pick your seafood at the door and have them cooked to your preference onsite, fresh. Make sure you order the white cut chicken 白斬雞 too.
